Turkey Exported $18 Billion to its Neighbors
According to the information compiled from the data of the Ministry of Trade and the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Turkey exported $22 billion 7 million in September. The country's exports in the January-September period increased by 3.2 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 193 billion dollars.
During this period, Turkey realized exports of $18 billion 5 million to Bulgaria, Iran, Iraq, Georgia, Syria, and Greece, which have land borders.
The said amount was $15 billion 987 million 4 thousand in the same period of the previous year. Accordingly, exports to the said countries increased by 12.6 percent in 9 months compared to the same period of the previous year.
During the said period, the most exports were made to Iraq with $7 billion 777 million 422 thousand. This country was followed by Bulgaria with $3 billion 180 million 620 thousand, Greece with $2 billion 483 million 635 thousand, Georgia with $1 billion 786 million, Iran with $1 billion 685 million 542 thousand, and Syria with $1 billion 92 million 559 thousand.
It was seen that exports increased to other neighboring countries except for Iran on an annual basis in the 9-month period. Exports to Iran decreased by 2.3 percent during this period.
The most increase during this period was in exports to Greece with 26.8 percent, Iraq with 15.4 percent, and Syria with 11 percent.
Most chemical products were sold to neighbors
When the distribution of Turkey's exports to its neighbors by sector is examined, the "chemical substances and products" sector ranked first.
Exports of $2 billion 708 million 240 thousand were made to 6 neighboring countries from this sector. The said sector was followed by "cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products" with $2 billion 253 million 242 thousand, and "steel" with $1 billion 526 million 697 thousand.
The sectors with the least exports were "ornamental plants and products" with $15 million 368 thousand, "hazelnuts and products" with $38 million 704 thousand, and "olives and olive oil" with $44 million 893 thousand.
Turkey has 8 neighbors with land borders, namely Iran, Greece, Iraq, Georgia, Bulgaria, Nakhchivan, and Armenia. Since there is no data for Nakhchivan, it is not included in the calculation, while direct trade is not carried out between Turkey and Armenia by land.
