Exports to African Countries Exceeded $15 Billion
While Turkey adopted the "Strategy for Improving Commercial and Economic Relations with African Countries" in 2003, the projects and collaborations implemented for the African continent since that date have greatly contributed to trade with the continent.
Turkey has also handled its relations with Africa within the framework of the "Africa Partnership Policy" since 2013. As a reflection of this policy on diplomatic relations, the number of embassies in African countries reached 44 in 2024, almost 4 times higher than 12 in 2003.
In addition, the number of commercial counselor offices in 4 African countries in 2003 was increased to 31. According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) data, Turkey's exports to African countries increased by 1.8 percent in the 10 months of the year compared to the same period of 2023, reaching 15.1 billion dollars.
Sales to Africa accounted for 7 percent of Turkey's total exports. The continent ranked 6th among the 12 country groups to which Turkey exported the most during this period, based on country groups.
In the 10 months of the year, Turkey realized exports of 79.9 billion dollars to European Union (EU) countries, 24.3 billion dollars to other countries, 23.3 billion dollars to Middle Eastern countries, 18.6 billion dollars to the Commonwealth of Independent States, and 17.8 billion dollars to other European countries.
The most exports were made to Egypt
In the January-October period, the countries to which Turkey exported the most in the African continent were determined as Egypt with 2.9 billion dollars, Morocco with 2.5 billion dollars, Algeria with approximately 2 billion dollars, Libya with 1.9 billion dollars, Tunisia with 859.2 million dollars, South Africa with 514.5 million dollars, Nigeria with 482.1 million dollars, Djibouti with approximately 343 million dollars, Ghana with approximately 313 million dollars, and Senegal with 301.1 million dollars.
When looked at sectorally, the most exports to African countries in the said period were realized by chemical substances and products with 2.5 billion dollars, cereals pulses oilseeds and products with 2.3 billion dollars, steel with 1.7 billion dollars, automotive industry with 1.2 billion dollars, and electricity and electronics sectors with 1.1 billion dollars.
The sectors that increased their exports the most in terms of value were chemical substances and products with 248.5 million dollars, jewelry with 137.7 million dollars, textiles and raw materials with 98.6 million dollars, machinery and equipment with 71.8 million dollars, and electricity and electronics sectors with 54.4 million dollars.
The jewelry sector exported 309.7 million dollars, the textile and raw materials sector exported 1.1 billion dollars, and the machinery and equipment sector exported 1.1 billion dollars to African countries.
The sectors that exported the least to the continent were listed as other ornamental plants with 2.1 million dollars, olives and olive oil with 12.9 million dollars, fresh fruits and vegetables with 20.2 million dollars, dried fruits and products with 35.2 million dollars, and hazelnuts and products with 59.1 million dollars.
